Mable Sykes

Mable Mae "Ya" Sykes, 88, of Murray, died Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2011, at 6 a.m. at her home.

She was a retired restaurant owner. Her parents were Elbert and Bessie (Aaron) Lee.

Preceding in death were her husband, Byron Sykes, whom she married May 31, 1940; one son, Ron Sykes; four sisters, Onie Sykes, Emma Kidd, Ruby Satterwhite and Della Satterwhite; two brothers, Dalton Lee and Dossie Lee; and one grandson, Cory Sykes.

She is survived by two daughters, Bessie Harrison of Murray, and Phyllis Sykes of Marion; eight grandchildren, Ron Harrison and wife, Pam, Don Harrison and wife, Dreama, James Harrison, Lisa Ramsey and husband, J.R., Mike Sykes, James Sykes, Dawn Sykes and Kim Yarbrough (Bear); 14 great-grandchildren, four step-great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Aug. 5, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Blalock-Coleman & York Funeral Home with the Rev. Brett Miles officiating. Burial will follow in Murray Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be tonight, Thursday, from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Murray-Calloway County Hospital Hospice, 803 Poplar Street, Murray, KY 42071.
