James Rudolph Smith
The funeral for James Rudolph Smith will be Friday at 10 a.m. in the chapel of J.H. Churchill Funeral Home. John Dale and Rev. Sammy Cunningham will officiate. Burial will follow in the Murray Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. today (Thursday).
Mr. Smith, 90, Fairlane Drive, Murray, died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2008, at 8:45 p.m. at Spring Creek Health Care.
An Army veteran of World War II, he was the recipient of The Purple Heart. Retired from the former Murray Division of the Tappan Company, he was a member of First Baptist Church, Murray.
Preceding him in death were his first wife, Murelle Allbritten Smith, and stepmother, Vella Parker Smith. Born Oct. 18, 1918, in Calloway County, he was the son of the late James Alvis Smith and Minnie Bell Fox Smith.
Survivors include his wife, LaNita Russell Smith, to whom he was married Aug. 5, 1995 in Murray; one stepdaughter, Debbie Miller and husband, John, and one stepson, Kevin Russell and wife, Lana, all of Murray; four stepgrandchildren, Jill Adams, Greg Miller, Tammy Thompson and Chris Garland; seven stepgreat-grandchildren; three nieces, Dortha Bailey and husband, Gene, and Martha Fay Parker and husband, Tommy, all of Murray, and Betty Dunn and husband, Johnny, Covington, Ga.; several great nieces and nephews.
