Evelyn Burkeen

Evelyn Jo Burkeen, 91, of Murray passed away on June 7, 2018 at her home.
She was the daughter of John and Dixie (Jones) Workman of Murray.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, J.B. Burkeen. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Murray.
"Mrs. Jo" never met a stranger and was very involved in her community. She worked at the Murray Ledger & Times for more than 60 years, most notably as the society editor and organizer of Jo's Datebook. She served on many organizations including Need Line, the Murray Woman's Club, Lion's Club, Salvation Army, Relay for Life, as well as many others.
In addition to her parents and husband, Jo was preceded in death by sisters, Dorothy Dunn and Sue Murdock. She is survived by one son Dennis Burkeen, wife Rhonda, of Aurora; daughter, Patsy Black, husband Grant, of Hardin; brother, Bob Workman, wife Doris, of Murray; three grandchildren, James Burkeen, wife Catherine, of Murray, Jennifer Burkeen Linn of Murray, and Emily McGill, husband Justin, of Hardin; and five great grandchildren, Will Burkeen, Ellie Burkeen, Eva Linn, Mason Linn and Brody McGill; as well as her special caregivers, Jennifer Donnelly of Murray and Dana Lovett of Aurora.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home with John Dale officiating. Burial will follow in the Murray Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 8, 2018 from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home.
