On Friday morning, September 15,2017 our sweet Daddy, Burlon Wayne Holsapple took his first breath in heaven on the day before his 85th birthday. He struggled for 6 years to beat the renal cell carcinoma which finally took his life. He lovingly shared his salvation story to anyone willing to listen how he accepted Christ as his personal Lord and Savior at age sixteen.
Daddy was born in his Grandmother Shaw's log cabin on September 16, 1932 in Land Between the Lakes, as the youngest of 13 children to William Davidson and Almeda Shaw Holsapple.
Daddy grew up in Murray and attended Murray Training School as a child, enjoying swimming and basketball. He went on to serve in the U.S. Army as a young man at Indiantown Gap PA.
He and his deceased father-in-law Charles Wilson owned and operated the Wilson and Holsapple GULF Station in Hazel from 1954-1984. He then farmed, and worked for and retired from West KY Rural Telephone Co., KY State Hwy. Dept., and KY Allied Services until he was 78 years of age.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 12 siblings; Graves Holsapple, Jewel Melugin,
Thomas Holsapple, Joseph Holsapple, Mary McKinney, John W. Holsapple, W.D. Holsapple, Mason S. Holsapple, Ruby Snow, Lorene Davis, Laurene Hanna, and Bonnie Sue Beeke. He was also preceded in death by his great- grandson, Chance R. Cook.
Our Daddy is survived by us four children: C. Wayne Holsapple of Phoenix, AZ; Cheryl Ann Milner and husband Vic of Hazel; D. Timothy Holsapple and wife Sheila of Hazel; Lisa Renee Whitlow and husband Tim of Almo.
Eleven grandchildren survive: Christopher M. Tucker, Justin W. Holsapple, Jessica Holsapple, Ashley Cook, Amanda Holsapple, Kaylie Darnell, Ashley Preto, Elisabeth Bryan, Jordan Harrell, Madison Whitlow, Evan Whitlow.
Ten great- grandchildren: Nathaniel W. Holsapple, Audrey Tucker, Whitley Tucker, Savanna Mathis, Skyler Cook, Ava Cook, Parker D. Cook, Bransen Bryan, Brooklyn Bryan, and Gia Duncan. He is also survived by his darling Murlene Crouch and family whom he dearly loved.
Funeral services will be at the Hazel Baptist Church in Hazel, Kentucky, where he has been a faithful follower of Christ since 1954, on Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with Bro. Jordan Roach officiating. Burial follow at the Murray Memorial Gardens in Murray. Visitation will be held on Monday, September 18, 2017 at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday, September 19, 2017 prior to the funeral service at the Hazel Baptist Church from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m.
